Career Description




This position is being offered in the Division of Water Quality's Groundwater Protection Program. The Groundwater Protection Program protects and monitors groundwater quality and works towards restoration of groundwater that has been impacted by contaminants. This position will be responsible for groundwater quality sampling from monitoring wells across the state, entering data in water quality databases, cleaning and maintaining field equipment, procuring appropriate sampling containers and the preparation and preservation of samples for laboratory analysis.

Minimum Qualifications

Individuals must be enrolled in a college or university or be a recent graduate majoring in biology, the environmental sciences, or in natural resource management with coursework in chemistry, biology, geology, ecology, or other related physical or natural science. This position is based in Bismarck; however, considerable travel, with overnight stays, will be required. Transportation and per diem reimbursement will be provided by the department. A good driving record with a valid driver's license is required. Experience with computers (Arcview, Office), GPS and maintenance of related equipment will be helpful. This position requires computer and data management capabilities.

Primary duties include: Interpretive tours and maintenance of an outdoor interpretive site, give guided fishing excursions to schools and other community groups, presentations in classrooms and other public events, teach hunter education, assist in coordination of state fair, fishing camps, state archery tournament and other events as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Recent graduates with a bachelor's degree in education, wildlife management, outdoor education, recreation administration or a field related to the program area. Graduating undergraduates with experience in education or natural resources will be considered. Applicant must be extremely self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision. Must have good overall knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and social media. Must be comfortable giving public presentations and working with kids. Excellent organization and communication skills. Applicant must have a valid driver's license and be flexible with work hours. Overnight travel, weekend and evening hours are required. Requires satisfactory completion of a criminal background check.

As part of the Audience Engagement & Museum Department, the Exhibits Manager, will oversee the effective concepting, design, writing, and execution of all exhibits of the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Duties and Tasks

Lead the development, design, and execution of exhibits for permanent, temporary, and digital exhibits and interpretive projects. Develop and oversee a long-term exhibit plan for two state museums.Draft exhibit themes and text for all agency exhibits. Collaborate with editors, marketing, and education teams for exhibit related publicity and education projects.Manage exhibit budgets, grant applications, and timelines for the two state museums.Facilitate communication among internal and external stakeholders.Supervise temporary exhibit staff as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in exhibit design, art, history, museum studies, or a closely related field and three years of professional experience in managing and producing large-scale exhibits.Demonstrated experience in project management, writing exhibit text, analyzing bids and contracts, and team collaboration skills.Skilled in the use of materials, tools, and methods for exhibit installation and maintenance.Proficient in design software (e.g. CAS, Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch-Up). Knowledge of ADA requirements and emerging trends in exhibit design.
